2011 Krzysztof Holowczyc took part in his first Dakar with the X-raid Team. A former FIA European Rally Champion, he has been the top Polish driver in cross-country events in recent years and teams up with regular Belgian co-driver Jean-Marc Fortin in a PKN Orlen-backed BMW X3 CC. He has achieved several useful stage results on recent Dakars and has often run among the top privateers challenging the factory teams.
Holowczyc is a well-known celebrity in his native Poland and often appears in television shows and commercials. Since December 2007 to July 2009 Krzysztof Holowczyc was Member of the European Parliament. There he worked in: Committee on Transport and Tourism, Committee on International Trade and Delegation for relations with Belarus. He is also well known for his concern about the safety of driving in Poland. Holowczyc took part in a nation-wide social campaign “Drunken drivers are carrying the death”.
