BMW's Engine Plant in Steyr has been an elementary part of the BMW Group's worldwide production network since 1979.

Forming the largest engine plant withinthe Group, Steyr is also the worldwide competence centre responsible for thedevelopment of all BMW diesel engines.

The ground was broken for BMW's Steyr Plant in UpperAustria in 1979. Engine production then started in1982, and today more than half of all BMW engines arebuilt in Steyr. The Steyr Plant builds four- and six-cylinderdiesel engines as well as six-cylinder petrol power units shippedto BMW Group car production plants the world over.

Widely lauded and the winners of many prizes, these BMWpower units acknowledged by experts as the benchmark forthe most advanced engine technology are the guarantee forthat "Sheer Driving Pleasure" so typical of all BMWs.
